The ongoing integration of renewable energy into the national and transnational energy markets as well as the improved use of European energy mixes require continuous upgrading and expansion of the electricity grid infrastructure throughout and beyond Europe. Strengthening the interconnected transmission platform will not only serve the markets as such, but will, in particular, contribute to an effective and cost efficient implementation of the EU’s internal market, climate and renewable energy strategy ‘without frontiers’.
The Climate Parliament, Friends of the Supergrid and Dii jointly promote the importance of adequate transmission infrastructure. Hence, they have organized the event The transmission grid that Europe needs – Strengthening cross-border interconnections within Europe and across the Mediterranean at the EU Sustainable Energy Week EUSEW hosted in the European Parliament on 25 June 2014.
The presentations held at the event are now available .
