The generation and supply of renewable energy from large-scale and decentralised sources will allow Europe and its neighbours to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to enhance security of energy supply and to provide affordable energy to consumers. This transition to a decarbonised energy future cannot be achieved without a European Electricity Supergrid. The Friends of the Supergrid would like to invite you to a Panel Debate hosted by Sir Graham Watson MEP at the European Parliament and Chairman of Climate Parliament in the framework of the EU Sustainable Week. The event will take place on 26 June from 15h00 to 17h00, followed by a cocktail at the EP, Paul-Henri Spaak PHS5B001.
– Which are the latest developments since the signing of the Joint Declaration ‘No Transition without Transmission’by FOSG, the Climate Parliament, Medgrid, the Renewable Grid Initiative and the Desertec Industrial Initiative in March 2012?
– Where do we stand in the harmonisation of existing regulatory frameworks?
– Which are further possible steps to attract investors to grid developments?
– Will the creation of a European Supergrid imply a further raise in electricity prices for consumers?
– Which are the new technological developments related to high voltage electricity grids?
