Friends of the Supergrid welcomes two new members Abengoa and Tideway!

Friends of the Supergrid (FOSG) is very pleased to welcome two new members!

Abengoa and Tideway have joined FOSG, Europe’s largest industrial alliance for interconnections, as they share our vision that Europe will significantly benefit from an efficiently interconnected electricity grid or “Supergrid” that secures the supply of a sustainable and affordable energy mix for Europe.

Abengoa is a Spanish engineering, construction and development company, which specialises in turn-key projects for large transmission projects, solar-thermal plants, solar-gas hybrid plants, conventional generation plants, biofuels plants and water infrastructures, amongst many others. Its three main activities are engineering and construction, concession-type infrastructures and industrial production. Abengoa is a world leader in the development of biofuels and solar technology and innovative technology solutions contributing to sustainability in the energy and environment sectors. Abengoa currently employs over 24.000 people, has a net income of €101 million and makes 84% of its revenues outside of Spain.

Tideway is a member of the Belgian dredging, environmental and marine engineering company Deme, which provides offshore solutions such as: power cable installation, seabed preparation, rock placement, offshore dredging, and landfall construction. Tideway describes its range of expertise as follows: “Tideway is an expert in Landfall construction, scour protection and pre- and post-dredging for the support of pipe laying operations and powercable installation. Tideway assists clients in stabilising and protecting their offshore pipelines, cables or other installations such as Gravity Based Structures or wind farm foundations. Tideway specializes in precision stone dumping for pipeline crossings, platform approaches, scour protection and offshore ballasting and seabed improvement. Offshore power cable installation milestones are the installation of the Norned HVDC connection between Norway and the Netherlands, and of the export and infield cables for the C-Power Thorntonbanck offshore windfarm in Belgium.” Tideway is operating worldwide, from its main office in the Netherlands, through offices in amongst others Luxembourg, Australia, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, United States, and Mexico.

We warmly welcome Tideway and Abengoa and look forward to years of fruitful cooperation!

DEME’s subsidiary Tideway has the specialised knowledge, experience and techniques that are required for the installation of high voltage marine power cables. Tideway manages the complete installation process. Abengoa applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, generating electricity from renewable resources, converting biomass into biofuels and producing drinking water from sea water.
