FOSG believes that energy storage will become one of the most effective options for improving the stability of the grid.

So far, electricity storage technologies have had a limited deployment in the EU power grid, despite the multiple benefits they can provide. In particular, energy storage can supplement demand response, flexible generation and provide a complement to grid development. It can also contribute to the decarbonisation of other economic sectors, and support the integration of higher shares of variable renewable energy in transport, buildings or industry.

Recently, the European Commission has confirmed that energy storage is a key component in providing flexibility and supporting renewable energy integration in the energy system. It can balance centralised and distributed electricity generation, while also contributing to energy security.

FOSG role is to ensure the creation of a EU storage framework that recognises the importance of the technology for the internal energy market and allows for its full deployment.
