FOSG is part of the European Commission (EC) Expert Group on Interconnection Targets, a group of technical experts established in 2016, which provides the EC with the technical advice on how to achieve a 15% electricity interconnection target.

The mission of the Group is to provide the EC and the regional cooperation structures (created by the TEN-E Regulation – (EU) No 347/2013) with technical advice on how best to translate the 15% interconnection target into regional-, country- and/or border-level targets.

The Group also advises the EC on key technical issues related to the implementation of the necessary interconnections, including those related to the achievement of the current 10% interconnection target.

The Expert Group is made-up of 15 leading experts on the European energy market from European industry organisations, academic and research bodies, NGOs, and international organisations. Members of the Expert Group are appointed for two and a half years – renewable once.

FOSG advocates for an efficient, interconnected, and resilient electricity grid to complement existing national transmission infrastructure.
