About this Event

Join Friends of Sustainable Grids on February 3, 2021 from 1.30pm CET to ca. 2.45pm CET for a FREE webinar on:

“Brexit and the Electricity Sector: Is it really a good deal?”

In this free event, we will hear about the real impact of Brexit on market mechanisms and viable options to minimize the downsides for market players, including grid operators.

Indeed, the Brexit deal brings an end to implicit auctions, exclusively maintaining explicit auctions for the first fifteen months or so, before heading towards a form of loose volume coupling, as opposed to the well-known and rather successful market coupling we had up to December 31st., 2020. This structure will result in decreased trading quality and most probably also in significant revenue losses. In addition, even if a loose volume coupling is implemented, it will have an impact on reliability, which will in turn result in increased financial responsibility for the operators of interconnectors. In other words, many market players stand to make less revenue while consumers bear higher costs. The future of the market is, however, not yet set in stone and there is still a short window to react and avoid potential downfalls.

We look forward to discussing this critical matter with you and informing you of urgent solutions that can still make a difference in minimizing the fallout for grid operators.
