On 07 April a letter signed by FOSG and 23 other associations and companies was sent to the European Energy Ministers, ahead of their Informal Energy Meeting of 16 April 2015 which will take place in Riga, Latvia.
The letter calls for the Energy Ministers to endorse the North Seas Offshore Grid project that has been omitted from the EC’s Communication on the Energy Union of 25 February 2015.
The letter therefore calls for the discussions of the Informal Energy Council to cover three items:
- An endorsement of the North Seas Offshore Grid project, as a “key focus for enhanced regional cooperation as part of Europe’s Energy Union”;
- A proposal to agree to a Intergovernmental Agreement defining the North Seas Offshore electricity Strategy, to be adopted during the Dutch EU Presidency of 2016; and
- A proposal for establishing a multi-country Investment Platform of the North Sea to increase the project’s visibility and attract investors.
